Friendship Bridge (Paraguay-Brazil)
The Friendship Bridge (a direct translation from "Ponte da Amizade") is a bridge connecting the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu and the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este.
The bridge was open to traffic in 1965. The space between the main arch of 290m (303m in total). The bridge itself is 552.4m long.
The bridge is of ultimate importance to Paraguay's economy and, as well of major importance to Foz do Iguaçu. Most Paraguayan importations of goods and as well as its exportations, passes thru the bridge, generating constant traffic problems to the area.
BR-277 begins immediately after the end of the bridge in the Brazilian side.
Mekong River
The similarly named Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge crosses the Mekong River from Thailand to Laos near the Laotian capital Vientiane.
