Gargantua River
The Gargantua River is a river in the Algoma District of Ontario, Canada which empties into Warp Bay on Lake Superior south of Wawa, Ontario. It flows through Lake Superior Provincial Park.
Up until the 1940s, Gargantua Harbour, at the river's mouth, was a busy port and the site of a thriving commercial fishery. The unintended introduction of the sea lamprey into Lake Superior contributed to the decline of this type of activity on the lake.
The region was named by the French after the giant in François Rabelais' satire "Gargantua and Pantagruel". Pantagruel Bay can be found nearby.
