Gaspe manifesto
The Gaspé manifesto is a controversial manifesto that was created in 1971 by a group of leading Canadian theatre professionals. Its main suggestions were to call for subsidized theatres to have at least half their content be Canadian. There were two key goals in mind, to create a national theatre and to improve the conditions of playwrights. In the years that follow this manifesto more Canadian content was found in Canadian theatres.
