George Dantzig
George Bernard Dantzig (born 8 November 1914 in Portland, Oregon) is a mathematician who introduced the simplex algorithm and is considered the "Father of linear programming".
Dantzig became the origin of a famous urban legend, when he was a graduate student at UC Berkeley. He accidentally solved two problems that the professor, Jerzy Neyman , gave to the students as an example of open problems in statistics; being late for class, Dantzig thought that the problems were given as a homework assignment.
