Giorgi Kvinitadze
Giorgi Kvinitadze (in Georgian: გიორგი კვინიტაძე) (1874-1970) was a Georgian general and one of the most prominent military leaders of the Democratic Republic of Georgia.
He graduated from St Petersburg General Staff Academy in 1910 and served as the Chief of Staff of the 4th Caucasian Division during the WW1 (1914-1918).
After the Georgian declaration of independence, Kvinitadze joined the national army and was the Chief of Staff during the Georgian-Armenian War of 1918. He suppressed Turkish-backed Muslim revolt in southwestern Georgia in 1919.
He was appointed as the Commander in Chief and successfully defended the Georgian-Azerbaijani borders form the Soviet attacks in April 1920. However, the young Georgian republic couldn’t survive the Soviet invasion of February 1921 and General Kvinitadze immigrated to France, where he died in 1970.
He is the author of “Memoirs”.
