Glamorgan County Cricket Club
Glamorgan County Cricket Club is a county cricket club based at Cardiff, playing most of their games at Sophia Gardens , which is located by the River Taff. It is the only first-class cricket team in Wales.
Famously winning the county championship under the captaincy of Wilf Wooler , whose advocacy of high fielding standards was the key to beating much stronger batting and bowling teams, Glamorgan won the championship once again under Mathew Maynard . Maynard, who has announced his intention to retire at the end of the 2005 season, has been one of the most destructive batsmen in first class cricket over the past 20 years and his lack of appearances for England in test and one day cricket remains inexplicable. Doughty off spinner Robert Croft proved effective on England tours, and is a useful pinch hitter in county one day games.
