Global Challenge
The Global Challenge Series
These races consist of a series of races run by Challenge Business, the company started by Sir Chay Blyth in [1989].
The races so far:
- British Steel Challenge 1992-3
- BT Global Challenge 1996-7
- BT Global Challenge 2000-1
- Global Challenge 2004-5
The most unusual thing about the races is that they are run for amateur crews, who pay to take part (Clipper Ventures owned by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston also runs similar concept races) and that this is the only round the world yacht race to go against the prevailing winds and currents (the 'westabout' route).
