Goro is a character from the fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat.

About Goro

Goro was there from the very start of Mortal Kombat. He belongs to the race of Shokan , a four-armed humanoid race combining features of humans and dragons, and mainly living in the underground. He is one of the characters who experienced a shift from evil to good through the history of Mortal Kombat, or otherwise evolving from a primitive, tribal brute to a noble warlord. Goro is a key player in the Mortal Kombat universe, but, in spite of his incredible strength and considerable intelligence, always acts in some kind of higher plan.

Storyline

Goro became Outworld's champion after defeating the Great Kung Lao 500 years before the events of the first Mortal Kombat game. He was banished to Earthrealm along with his master, Shang Tsung, and was instructed to win ten tournaments in a row. He lost the tenth and was left for dead. For unknown reasons, he returned in Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat 4.

After the downfall of Shao Kahn, Goro began to take an interest in the matters of his own race and fared war with the Centaurs, the Shokans' natural born opponents, until Princess Kitana intervened and negotiated both races through a truce and peace accord. Goro and his Shokan forces later attacked the weakened Shao Kahn's armies in a joint enterprise, but Goro was mortally wounded in combat by Noob Saibot, and eventually died. This sent the Shokan armies spiralling down into leaderless chaos, and caused the war between Edenia and Outworld to end in a draw.

Although he was believed to have died, he had survived. Goro was then taken care of by an unknown being. Goro is a playable character in GameCube version of Mortal Kombat: Deception along with Shao Kahn.

Movie appearance

Goro appears in the first Mortal Kombat movie, in accordance with his original story, as the champion of Mortal Kombat. After defeating numerous opponents, among which Johnny Cage's friend Art Lean , he is in turn defeated and sent falling to his death by the former. In the movie, Goro is portrayed as an evil warrior, steeped in the authoritarian traditions of Outworld. He thinks lowly of humans.
