State Level Government
The General Court
New Hampshire's General Court, the state's legislative body, is bicameral and consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The House of Representatives
The House of Representatives is renowned for being the third largest in the English speaking world with 400 members. With the current estimated population of New Hampshire from the last U.S Census , there is approximately One Representative for every 3,000 residents. In order for the U.S Congress to have the same representation, there would need to be approximately 93,000 Representatives.
However, in exchange for the excellent representative to constitutent ratio, the professionalism of the legislature has become a topic of discussion. Currently, legislators both in the House and the Senate receive 100 dollars per year along with free tolls and use of state owned resorts compared to other states where legislators receive 60,000 to 90,000 dollars per year.
The Senate
The Senate consists of 24 Senators, each in a district of approximately 50,000 people.
