Graham Nicholls

Graham Nicholls is a British installation artist specialising in immersive art. One of the first artists to explore the possibility of using the internet for live video streaming and more recently at the forefront of artistic experiments with virtual reality. He is also known for his use of psychology and Neuro-linguistic programming in his interactive works, adding a new level to how installation art is experienced. Nicholls’ video art is a balance of concept and technique, drawing upon filmic photographic processes and an architectural awareness of space. His work is always thought provoking and uses highly inspiring approaches to the unconscious mind. Since the early 90’s he has undertaken personal experimentation into sensory deprivation and hypnosis, which has formed the basis of much of his present work. Nicholls has also created work that actually hypnotises the participants into having a physical encounter with the installation. This created deeply personal and intimate events for the participants, something quite unique in the world of conventional installation art. His work embraces the most contemporary media, from virtual reality and the internet to audio and video art, but always with a deep sincerity. Nicholls' video art draws extensively on his life and experiences of London and the relationships he sees in the city’s people and places.
