Greater Montreal Area

The Greater Montreal Area is a term used to describe either the Montreal, Quebec, Canada Census Metropolitan Area or the Montreal Metropolitan Community (Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal) The CMA is defined by Statistics Canada while the Montreal Metropolitan Community is a level of government in Quebec, and is led by a clerk, who currently is Claude Séguin . The Metropolitan Community covers an area of 3,838.489 sq. km. and has a population of 3,493,485 (estimate). The Montreal CMA had a population of 3,426,350 (2001 Census) and has an area of 4,047.35 sq. km.
