Grimethorpe Colliery Band
The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is a brass band formed in 1917 as a leisure activity for the workers at the colliery. The band itself is widely considered to be one of the finest bands of its type in the UK, and regularly wins competitions. International fame came with the film Brassed Off which was loosely based on the band, and whose soundtrack was recorded by the band itself.
