Guldbagge Award
The official Swedish film award.
The name of the award is a play with the Swedish word "skal-bagge", which has a roughly litteral meaning of "Carapace-bug". The word "carapace" has in the name "Guldbagge" however been changed into "guld" (gold), giving the award a name that could be roughly translated into "Gold-Bug".
The award is given out to the best film-related efforts in the following categories:
- Picture
- Directing
- Screenplay
- Cinematography
- Actress in a leading role
- Actor in a leading role
- Supporting actress in a leading role
- Suporting actor in a leading role
- Foreign picture (To which the country of production, and not the language of the film - such in the nominations of the North American Academy Award - is what makes the film a potential nominee)
The price itself, a small statue with the shape of a bug, is made in male and female versions. The male bugs are equipped with a small penis on the downside. The female bugs do not have a penis, nor do they have some female form of counterpart.
Furthermore, an inscription of the award's winner, and the category in question, is glued on the downside of the bug. Every bug is created individually by the very same artist that once designed them.
