Guyandotte River

The Guyandotte River is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 166 mi (267 km) long, in southwestern West Virginia in the United States. It drains an area of the Appalachian Mountains south of the Ohio between the watersheds of the Kanawha River to the northeast and the Big Sandy River to the southwest.

It rises in southwestern Raleigh County and flows initially WNW into Wyoming County and past Mullens and Pineville. In western Wyoming County it approaches to within 10 mi (16 mi) of the common border between West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia and flows through R.D. Bailey Lake reservoir before turning north. If flows generally NNW across southwestern West Virginia past Mount Gay and Chapmanville. West Virginia State Highway 10 follows the river for much of its course below the reservoir. In its lower reaches in Cabell County it follows a highly meandering course and enters the Ohio from the south approximately 5 mi (8 km) east of Huntington.
