Gwyneth Kate Paltrow (born September 28, 1972) is an American actress.

She is the daughter of the late television producer and director Bruce Paltrow and the actress Blythe Danner. She studied Art History at the University of California, Santa Barbara before committing herself to acting. Paltrow has a younger brother named Jake and is a cousin of actress Katherine Moennig.

Born in Los Angeles, her debut film was Shout (1991) and she played in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991) before starring in Se7en (1995) and dating her co-star Brad Pitt. Their relationship was much publicized, just like their break-up two years later. Her performance in Emma (1996) received its share of praise.

She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress two years later for her performance in Shakespeare in Love (1998).

Paltrow gave birth to her first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, on May 13 2004 with husband Chris Martin of the group Coldplay, whom she married in secret on 5 December, 2003. She was previously engaged to Brad Pitt. Paltrow is also a vegetarian. She is half-Jewish by birth as her father was Jewish.
