HÉV
HÉV (Helyi Érdekű Vasút, lit. "Railway of Local Interest") is the name of the four suburban railways in and around Budapest. (It is not to be confused with Budapest Metro.)
Its lines connect Csepel (south), Ráckeve (south, starting more eastwards), Gödöllő (northeast), and Szentendre (north) with the city center. The lines are not connected, and they start from different termini.
It operates on standard gauge (1435 mm), electrified at 1000 V DC.
It is operated by BKV, and standard BKV tickets and passes are valid within the boundaries of Budapest, outside it a separate ticket should be validated.
The HÉV is a hybrid between a train and a metro, since while most of its stations are overground (outdoor), some are underground.
