Herouville was the commune name until 1957.
Population
Hérouville Saint Clair experienced a very fast development which made of it the most significant suburbs of Caen . Simple village at the beginning of the 1960, the commune passed from less than 2,000 inhabitants to almost 25,000 in less than fifteen years. This figure varied little since 1975 .
Administration
The canton of Hérouville Saint Clair (sometimes also called Caen-5 ), includesonly part of the commune. The other part belongs to the canton of Caen-Hérouville (or Caen-6 ).
