HMAS Lachlan

HMAS Lachlan (K-364/F-364), named for the Lachlan River in New South Wales, Australia, which rises in the Great Dividing Range near Cullerin and flows into the Murrumbidgee River near Balranald, was a River class frigate laid down by Morts Dock and Engineering Company at Balmain, New South Wales on 22 March 1943, launched on 25 March 1944 by Mrs. J. H. Scullin, wife of the former Prime Minister and commissioned on 14 February 1945. HMAS Lachlan paid off on 5 October 1949, was transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy and served as HMNZS Lachlan until February 1975.
