Hadith Of The Cloak
The Event Of The Cloak is the event where the prophet Muhammad collected Hasan, Husein, Ali and Fatimah in his cloak and said the second part of verse 33:33 of the Qur'an
It is mentioned in several hadith, one of them in Sahih Bukhari.
Shias hold this as an example of an event illustrating God's confirmation of the purity and infallibility of those four persons.
Many Sunnis do not attach the same importance to this event however. They hold for true that the wives of the prophet where included in the second part of verse 33:33, since they are addressed in the beginning of verse 33:33.
Shia counter-argue that the first part of the verse is addresing in the feminine gender, while the second part is addressing in the masculine gender, meaning that at least one person in the group is a male. Shias also argue that verser itself says "only", implying that it talking about another group of people.
Sunni argue that the male gender is used to include the Prophet.
Shias argue that there is no hadith in which the wives are included in the event; on the contrary, Sunnis answer that there are hadiths where a wife, Um Salama, asked permission to be included but was gently declined.
