Halton (electoral district)

Halton is the name of a federal and provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada. Its population is 100,055. (2001)

Geography

The district includes the Town of Milton and the northern parts of the Town of Oakville and the City of Burlington.

History

The electoral district was created in 1996 from Halton--Peel, and Oakville--Milton.

There was also a district called Halton that existed from 1867 to 1987. It was an original district in the British North America Act, and consisted of Halton County until 1966. In 1966 it lost Burlington but gained Erin. In 1976 it lost Erin, and the most extreme southeastern part of Halton Hills. In 1987 it was abolished and it became Halton—Peel and Oakville—Milton .
