Hawaii Pacific University
Hawai'i Pacific University is a private coeducational university in Honolulu, Hawaii (a.k.a. HPU ). Founded in 1965 by Paul C.T. Loo, Eureka Forbes, Elizabeth W. Kellerman, and Reverend Edmond Walker, Hawai'i Pacific University is most noted for its diverse student body. The school boasts to educate scholars from every country of the world. Hawai'i Pacific University has two main campuses and several scientific facilities, including a private research island off the coast of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. It is anchored at the downtown Honolulu campus, which surrounds the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. It occupies one of the tallest buildings in Hawaii, formerly called the First Hawaiian Tower it is now called by its address 1132 Bishop Street. A second campus is located in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
Athletic teams are called the Sea Warriors and compete in the Pacific West Conference as part of the NCAA's Division II. A Japanese sumo champion, Akebono (Chad George Haaheo Rowan) once studied at HPU .
Degree Programs
Education at Hawai'i Pacific University is based on a traditional liberal arts foundation. The school confers both bachelor's and master's degrees in the major arts and sciences subjects. Hawai'i Pacific University offers degrees in business, communication, computer and informational sciences, health sciences, hotel and restaurant management, international relations, law, marine sciences, military studies, tourism and travel degree programs.
