Development
Work on the BAe 125-1000 commenced in October 1989, and the type's first flight took place on June 16 1990, performed alongside a British Airways Concorde that was performing an exhibition flight at the same time. The type's second flight was in October that same year.
The first production aircraft went through extense flight test development, which totalled 800 hours of work. The BAe 125-1000 was granted certification to fly by the British avaiation authorities on October 21 1991. Ten days later, the FAA certificated the aircraft for flights to or in the United States.
In 1993, the corporate jets division of British Aerospace was sold to Raytheon, and production of the aircraft started taking place in the United States instead. It was decided at that time that the plane should be renamed after the creator of that family, the Hawker Siddeley corporation.
By the end of 1994, fifty-two Hawker 1000s had been built, with thirty-eight orders yet to be fulfilled, but Raytheon decided not to produce any more of the type until further orders were received.
