Heartland Flyer
Amtrak's Heartland Flyer is a relatively new 209-mile (336-km) route between Fort Worth, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
After a 20 year absence of passenger rail service between Oklahoma and Texas, the return of service via the Heartland Flyer has been very successful. With ridership reaching up to 70,000 passengers per year, the Flyer is among the most profitable routes for Amtrak.
The route ties into the Amtrak Texas Eagle line in Fort Worth, with connections to San Antonio and Chicago. One can also transfer to the TRE (Trinity Railway Express) Line in Fort Worth for a direct link to the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) light rail system, providing connections to several cities in the Dallas area.
The area served by the Heartland Flyer is prioritized as part of the ISTEA South Central Corridor and is slated to be upgraded to high-speed rail service within the next few years.
