Henry Stapp
Henry Stapp is one of the main figures in the modern manifestation of Consciousness Studies . In particular, his theory of how mind may interact with matter via quantum processes in the brain differs from that of Penrose and Hammeroff. While the former postulates quantum computing in the microtubules in brain neurons, Stapp sees a global collapse of superposed brain states as in the process of choosing between alternatives. Stapp argues rigourously for the 'rock-like' nature of deterministic wave function evolution under Schroedinger's Equation and the 'mind-like' nature of the ensuing wave function collapse. A corollary of this view of reality is that time is not fixed in 4 dimensions but is constantly forging ahead into the future, each wave function collapse being an 'act of creation' that furthers the arrow of time. Thus free will is directly instrumental in the evolution of the universe.
