Hilltop Hoods
The Hilltop Hoods are an Australian hip-hop group, originating from Adelaide, South Australia.
The group formed in the early 1990s when MCs Suffa and Pressure met at high school. When they later hooked up with DJ Debris through a mutual friend, the trio was complete. The name originates from the Adelaide suburb of O'Halloran Hill , referred to by locals as "The Hilltop".
They were inspired by American and UK hip hop artists such as Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, So-Solid Crew and The Streets, which encouraged them to spread this style of music to Australia as well.
They began to receive regular Triple J airplay during 2002. After the release of their gold album, The Calling in 2003, this resulted in getting two of their tracks, "Nosebleed Section" and "Dumb Enough", being voted in to numbers 9 and 44 respectively in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2003.
They have played many large Australian music festivals, including the Big Day Out, Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festivals.
