Hoshang Shah

Hoshang Shah was the sultan of Malwa from 1405 to 1435. He succeeded his father, Dilawar Khan , who was governor of Malwa province during the decline of the Delhi Sultanate. Dilawar Khan declared himself Sultan of Malwa in 1401, and passed the kingdom to his son upon his death. Hoshang Shah did much to embellish Mandu, founded by his father as the capital of the sultanate; he built a number of fine buildings, including the magnificent Jama Masjid, or great mosque. He is also the reputed founder of Hoshangabad. He is buried in a fine domed tomb at Mandu, built of white marble. His was succeeded by his son Ghazni Khan, who ruled for only a year; after Ghazni Khan's death, the sultanate passed to Mahmud Khalji .
