Hot Shots!

Hot Shots! is a 1991 comedy spoof which starred Charlie Sheen, Cary Elwes, Valeria Golino , Lloyd Bridges, Jon Cryer, Kevin Dunn and Bill Irwin. It was directed by Jim Abrahams, co-director of the Airplane! series of motion pictures, and was written by Abrahams and Pat Proft .

Hot Shots has been described as "Top Gun meets Airplane!". Sheen stars as U.S. Navy pilot Topper Harley who is asked to return to active duty for a special assignment after dropping out to go and live with Native Americans. Harley is romantically linked to the same woman (Golino) as another top gun pilot (Elwes). Amidst the chaos, the owner of an aerospace firm is trying to sabotage the mission in order to make the current fighter jets look bad in hopes that the Navy will replace them in favor of his jets.

The aircraft used in the movie are Folland Gnats.

The film was followed by a sequel, Hot Shots! Part Deux.
