Hsinchu (新竹 pinyin Xīnzhú) is a large city in northern Taiwan. Hsinchu City (新竹市) is a municipality of Taiwan Province. It is bordered by Hsinchu County to the north and east, Miaoli County to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the west. Hsinchu Science Park is in the eastern part of Hsinchu City, as well as part of Hsinchu County.

The three districts in Hsinchu City are North District, East District, and Siangshan District.

Hsinchu is home to National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, Chung Hua University , Hsuan Chuang University, and Yuanpei Institute of Science and Technology .

Hsinchu is popularly nicknamed "Fengcheng" (風城, wind city) for its windy climate.

Hsinchu is also famous for its local delicacy: Hsinchu meatball and rice noodle.
