Hungarian Socialist Party
The Hungarian Socialist Party (Hungarian: Magyar Szocialista Párt) is a socialist party in Hungary. The communist Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party split into two: into MSZP and an other half, which still exists, used to call itself Munkáspárt, named itself Communist in 2005, flirts with Viktor Orbán. MSZP had and still has numerous attempts to break with its past (like having Ferenc Gyurcsány, born 1961, for Prime Minister, and István Hiller for president, the success of attempts is viewed differently from different political sides (other parties sometimes claim the break wasn't successful). MSZP itself officially engaged itself for a break with the past.
It's most internationally recognised politicians are Gyula Horn and László Kovács.
It is the largest single party in the Hungarian National Assembly at the moment, with 178 out of 386 seats; on a 42.1% share of the vote. It governs in coalition with the Alliance of Free Democrats, giving it a slim majority.
The party is a member of the Party of European Socialists and Socialist International.
