Hunters Island (New York)
Hunters Island is a small island in northeast Bronx, New York.
New York City mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia had Robert Moses use rubbish and landfill in the 1930's and filled in Pelham Bay to create the Orchard Beach parking lot. The lagoon nearby is used for Olympic regatta training. The filled in portion connects Hunters Island to nearby Twin Island. These islands were privately owned before the city bought them to create Pelham Bay Park.
