Ibrahim Ali

Ibrahim Ali was a 17 year old youth killed in Marseilles, France in 1995. He was walking with a group of no more than ten other teens in his largely Comoro immigrant neighborhood when they encountered three supporters of Jean-Marie Le Pen's Front National party who had been posting campaign signs nearby. The latter group panicked when they saw a group of black youth and opened fire on them. Ali was shot in the back with a "dum dum" bullet- a type of ammunition which is outlawed by the Geneva Convention because it is explodes on impact and increases trauma.

Le Pen himself used the publicity as an opportunity to justify his political platform, saying:

"at least this unfortunate incident has brought to everyone's attention the presence in Marseilles of 50,000 Comorians. What are they doing here?" [1]

The three Front National supporters were convicted of the crime and sentenced to up to 15 years in jail.
