Imperial Navy
- Imperial Navy may also refer to the German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) between 1872 and 1918
In the fictional Star Wars galaxy, the Imperial Navy, or more properly, the Imperial Starfleet, is the senior military arm of the Galactic Empire. At its peak it fielded millions of warships and fulfilled the Emperor's will throughout the galaxy.
The ship prefix in the Imperial Navy is HIMS, His Imperial Majesty's Ship.
The most visible symbol of the Imperial Starfleet was the Imperator-class Star Destroyer. At least 25,000 destroyers of the Imperator I and Imperator II classes were commissioned during Palpatine's 25-year reign.
The flagship of the Imperial Starfleet after the Battle of Yavin was the Star Dreadnought Executor. HIMS Executor was destroyed during the Battle of Endor, where the Emperor also perished. Subsequently, the Galactic Empire split up into warring factions and the Imperial Starfleet splintered along with it.
The Empire, and the Starfleet, was reunited under the leadership of Grand Admiral Thrawn some five years after the Battle of Endor. Thrawn's flagship was the Imperator-class Star Destroyer Chimaera. Approximately one year after Thrawn's defeat the Empire was again re-united, this time under a clone of the Emperor, who used the gargantuan Star Dreadnought Eclipse as his flagship.
The vast majority of personnel in the Imperial Navy are male, although a few females have been seen in the service, such as Admiral Daala.
Most major capital ships during the height of the Empire were constructed by Kuat Drive Yards. The Corellian Engineering Corporation is also known to have supplied the Empire with large battleships and starfighter carriers. Other ship manufacturers supplied the Imperial Starfleet with support ships such as Carrack-class frigates, Lancer-class frigates, Strike-class frigates and escort carriers.
