Ingleborough

Ingleborough is a mountain in the Yorkshire Dales. It is one of the so-called Three Peaks, the other two being Whernside and Pen-y-ghent.

There are several popular routes to the summit. Probably the most common starting point is the village of Ingleton, which lies about 6 km to the southwest. If climbed as part of the Three Peaks Challenge (which is normally done clockwise) Ingleborough is the first hill climbed. Other common routes start from Horton in Ribblesdale and from Clapham. The route from Horton in Ribblesdale is about 6 km long and crosses some impressive areas of limestone pavement. The route from Clapham passes Ingleborough Cave and also the pothole of Gaping Gill.

Descent (when following the challenge route) is to the north, to the small village of Chapel-le-Dale. A pub here provides the oppurtunity to refresh oneself before attempting the climb of Whernside.
