The Interm Government of Iran in 1979 (February 4–November 6) was the first government established in Iran after Islamic Revolution. This government formed by Ayatollah Khomeini's order on February 4, 1979, while Shahpour Bakhtiar (Shah's last Prime Minister) was still claiming the power. Mehdi Bazargan was interim Prime Minister of the government and he introduced his 7-member cabinet on November 14, 1979. It was three days after army's official statement announcing army's (Bakhtiar's last hope) neutrality in conflicts between Khomeini's and Bakhtiar's supporters that actually was an end to Bakhtiar's Prime Ministership. He resigned on the same day, February 11. This day is officially named as Islamic Revolution's Victory Day.

Prime Minister and all members of cabinet resigned en masse on November 6, 1979. This was immediately after US embassy takeover by students on November 4. However, the government did not mention this incident as a reason for resignation. In his letter to Khomeini, Bazargan stated that "...repeated interferences, inconveniences, objections and disputes have made my colleagues and me unable to continue [meeting] our duties ...".

Bazargan reshuffled his cabinet several times because of resignation of ministers that were unable to cope with parallel sources of power. In several cases a ministry was supervised by an acting Minister or Bazargan himself.
