Interiors

Interiors is a 1978 film written and directed by Woody Allen. It was his first non-comedy film. Featured performers are Kristin Griffith , Mary Beth Hurt , Richard Jordan , Diane Keaton, E.G. Marshall, Geraldine Page, Maureen Stapleton and Sam Waterston.

The film's story concerns three sisters (Griffith, Hurt, Keaton) who try to adjust to the divorce of their parents (Marshall and Page) and deal with their suicidal mother, who is attempting a career as an interior decorator.

The visual and verbal styles of the film are consciously similar to that of Ingmar Bergman. Critics have also noted the apparent borrowing of visual techniques used by other highly regarded European directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini and Francois Truffaut. In the 'European' style, the film is subdued and features a considerable amount of dialogue. Allen explores his own symbology.

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Geraldine Page), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Maureen Stapleton), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Director and Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
