International Crisis Group

The International Crisis Group is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization of one hundred staff members. Their mission is to prevent and resolve deadly conflicts through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy.

When a country is at risk of outbreak, escalation, or recurrence of large scale violence, Crisis Group dispatches teams of political analysts into or close to the area of conflict. Based on the information these teams gather, the organization creates analytical reports with recommendations targeted at various world leaders and organizations. In addition to this work, Crisis Group publishes a 12-page monthly newsletter, CrisisWatch , which provides a brief overview of continuing or impending violence in the world.

As an analytical and report-generating organization, Crisis Group works diligently with governments, international organizations, and media outlets to publish and disseminate their reports and briefing papers. These are also available at http://www.crisisgroup.org

Crisis Group is co-chaired by former British politician and European Commissioner Chris Patten and former president of the Council on Foreign Relations Leslie H. Gelb . Its President and Chief Executive since January 2000 has been former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans. Their international headquarters are in Brussels, and they have advocacy offices in Washington DC, New York, London and Moscow. Crisis Group currently operates eighteen field offices in in Amman, Belgrade, Beirut, Cairo, Dakar, Dushanbe, Islamabad, Jakarta, Kabul, Nairobi, Osh, Port-au-Prince, Pretoria, Pristina, Quito, Seoul, Skopje and Tbilisi and has analysts working in over 40 countries and territories in conflict across four continents. Crisis Group is funded through donations by western governments, mostly US-based foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
