International Mother Language Day
February 21 was proclaimed the International Mother Language Day by the UNESCO in 2000.
The International Mother Language Day is observed yearly in UNESCO member states and at its headquarters to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
This day also commemorates the Bengali Language Movement of 1952 when many Bengali-speaking people were massacred by the Pakistani police and Army in Dhaka.
