International Obfuscated Ruby Code Contest

The International Obfuscated Ruby Code Contest (abbr. IORCC) is a programming contest for the programming language Ruby. The object of this contest is to create the most obfuscated code possible that still performs a useful task.

IORCC Founding Fathers

The folks who created the IORCC are:

  • Todd Nathan (SeaForth)

With regular help from:

  • Jannis Harder (jix)
  • Kyle Brooks (kbrooks)

Logged Online with:

  • Rubyo (trusted log bot written by Jannis)

Why it was founded

Ruby is a powerful language that is known for its simplicity and clearify, yet like any other language can be obfuscated to the point of near unreadability. With Ruby's ability to write short and clear code, the next logical and insane step was to make it unreadable yet still accomplish something useful. Remembering the days of the International Obfuscated C Code Contest (IOCCC), SeaForth proposed that a contest be held yearly or biannually for Ruby. If for no other reason having far too much time on his hands and the sheer love of obscurity in all things.
