Internet access in the United States

As of 2004, three out of four Americans have Internet access in the United States, with more than 50% of these being broadband connections. The following statistics are based on a March 18, 2004 press release from Nielsen//NetRatings , a company owned by the same parent company responsible for the Nielsen Ratings.

Statistics

74.9% of Americans living in households with a fixed line phone have home access to the Internet. This amounts to 204.307 million Americans out of the projected 272.81 million who are at least two years old. This is up from 66% a year earlier.

Access by age group:

  • 63.4% of people 55 years old and older
  • 81.7% of women between the ages of 35 and 54
  • 80.2% of men between the ages of 35 and 54
  • 77.0% of women between the ages of 25 and 34
  • 75.6% of men between the ages of 25 and 34
  • 75.0% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 24
  • 77.6% of kids between the ages of 2 and 17
