Irene Dunne

Irene Dunne (December 20, 1898September 4, 1990), born Irene Marie Dunn in Louisville, Kentucky, was an American film actress. A major star, Dunne was a solid and surprisingly erotic screen presence through the 1930's, although she faded in her square and soapy performances in 1940's melodrama. Much disparaged by James Agee and later critics, she is now best remembered for an uncharacteristically mad-cap and hilarious performance in "The Awful Truth."

She died of heart failure in Los Angeles, California at age 91, and is entombed in the Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles, California. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6440 Hollywood Blvd.

Academy Award Nominations as Best Actress

Her other notable roles included Anna Owens in Anna and the King of Siam and Lavinia (Vinnie) Day in Life with Father.
