Irene Sáez
Irene Lailin Sáez Conde (born 13 December 1961) is a Venezuelan who won the Miss Universe title in 1981 in New York City, and later became an important figure in Venezuela's political arena.
Sáez became the mayor of Chacao (a small district of Caracas) and then ran for Governor of the Venezuelan state of Isla Margarita, a title which she won. In 1998, to the surprise of many observers, she announced that she would run for President in 1998. She ran for the presidency, but lost to Hugo Chávez (see Venezuelan presidential election, 1998).
She lives in Caracas now together with her husband and her young son who was born in 2000. She has not officially announced any more plans regarding her career as a politician.
