Iringa
Iringa is a town in Tanzania with a population of 112,900 (as of 2004). It is situated at a latitude of 7.77°S and longitude of 35.69°E. It is also the name of the Iringa region and Iringa Urban and Iringa Rural districts. The name is derived from the Hehe word lilinga, meaning fort. The fortress and headquarters of Chief Mkwawa was situated in the nearby village of Kalenga during the 1890s.
Iringa region
The Iringa region has a population of 1,495,333, according to a 2002 census. The region is divided into several districts: Kilolo , "Iringa Urban" and "Iringa Rural", Ludewa, Mufindi , Makete , Njombe .
