Irlam

Irlam is a town located in Salford, South East Lancashire (Greater Manchester) and is closely related with its neighbouring town Cadishead. Irlam is home to over 15,000 'Irlamites' and was first given its name in the 18th century by the De Irlams .

Irlam is the host of Irlam Town F.C , Irlam Swimming Baths , Tesco Multistore as well as other large establishments. Irlam also was the home of Multi-Platinum selling opera singer, Russel Watson (now of Worsley).

Irlam contains one high school; Irlam and Cadishead Community High School (I.C.C.H.S), previously called 'Irlam High School', educating almost 950 students.

In 1817, James Herbert, then Mayor of Irlam declared a civil war on its neighbouring town of Cadishead, after enforcement #190.03 of the Salford City Council Law was broken. Cadishead has a smaller population than Irlam, hosts a higher level of poverty/low income families and is also smaller in terms of land area. Nevertheless, Cadishead and Irlam participated in a civil war that lasted approximately 29 days (August 31st-September 28th). Over 98 people were confirmed deceased and 124 people filed as sustaining injuries. The Denouement was the agreement to a new law, developed by Herbert and Cavanner (mayor of Cadhisead), compromising the previous law (#190.03).

The Symbol of Irlam is the Red Rose (hence the Public House, 'The Red Rose Inn').
