Ithaca College

Ithaca College is a private liberal arts college in Ithaca, New York, founded in 1892 as a music school, the Ithaca Conservatory of Music in downtown Ithaca.

The school began a move from downtown Ithaca to Ithaca's South Hill area, south of Cayuga Lake, in 1960.

Ithaca College's sports teams were originally called the Cayugans, but the name was changed to the Bombers in the 1930s. They participate in the NCAA's Division III, the Empire 8 Athletic Conference , and the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Ithaca has one of Division III's strongest athletic programs. The Bombers have won a total of 14 national titles in seven team sports and five individual sports. Most recently, the women's crew won the NCAA Division III championship in 2004.

Ithaca College is known for its programs in music, communications, business, theatre, physical therapy and physical education.

The School of Music, now housed in the James J. Whalen Center for Music (which was erected around the original Ford Hall in 1998), gives over 300 concerts a year, most of which are free and open to the public. The school offers degrees in music performance, education, recording and jazz studies; as well as a unique 4-1/2 year program in which students graduate with 2 bachelor's degrees, one in performance and one in education.
