Jönköping Municipality

Jönköping ['jœncøːpiŋ] is a Municipality in Jönköping County, in southern Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 1485.1 km². Of the total population of 119,340, 58,415 are male, and 60,925 are female. The population density of the community is 80 inhabitants per km². The City of Jönköpong received its charter on May 18 1284. Geographically the municipality is situated by the southern end of lake Vättern.

Jönköping is a very old trading center (Köping) and the City of Jönköping received its charter on May 18 1284. Jönköping is also known for its matchstick industry 1845-1970.
