Jack DeJohnette
Jack DeJohnette (born 1942) is a drummer and pianist, recognized as one of the foremost jazz musicians since the 1960's. Besides the drums he studied the piano. He first became known as a member of Charles Lloyd 's band, a band that Keith Jarrett also was a part of at that time. During the 70's he played with Miles Davis and recorded many albums for ECM as both leader and sideman. Since the 80's, he has been a member of what has become known as Keith Jarrett's Standards Trio . He is a dazzling improvisor and a clear stylistic successor of the two greatest drummers of the 60's, Tony Williams and Elvin Jones. He successfully incorporates elements of free jazz while maintaining the deep groove of an R&B drummer.
