Jake Peavy

Jacob Edward Peavy (b. May 31, 1981, in Mobile, Alabama), better known as Jake Peavy, is a pitcher for the San Diego Padres in the American major leagues of baseball.

Peavy stands 6 feet 1 inch tall (1.85 m) and weighs 180 pounds (82 kg). He was developed by the Padres in their minor league system after being drafted out of high school where he attended St. Paul's Episcopal School; Peavy declined an offer to pitch for Auburn University in order to accept the Padres' contract offer.

Peavy emerged in 2004 as an excellent pitcher and rising star during his third year of major league experience. Peavy compiled a 15-6 record and led the National League in ERA with a 2.27 average for the season. He currently features four pitches: a very good changeup, a 91 to 95 mph (146 to 153 km/h) fastball, a slider and a curveball.
