James E. Duffy, Jr.


James E. Duffy, Jr. (born June 4, 1942) of St. Paul, Minnesota, is Associate Justice of the Hawaii State Supreme Court. He is currently serving a term that lasts from 2003 to 2013. Upon graduating from Cretin High School in his hometown of St. Paul, Duffy attened the College of St. Thomas where he obtained his bachelor's degree. He then went on to Marquette University to obtain his doctorate of jurisprudence. Duffy began his legal career in 1968 at the law firm Cobb & Gould where he became an associate. He found himself in Honolulu, Hawaii working for the law firm Chuck & Fujiyama in 1971. In 1975, Duffy became a senior partner and the firm was renamed Fujiyama, Duffy & Fujiyama. It was from his private law practice that Governor Linda Lingle appointed Duffy to the Hawaii State Supreme Court. Though appointed by a governor from the Hawaii Republican Party, Duffy is a member of the Hawaii Democratic Party.
