James Gosling
James Gosling (born May 19, 1956 near Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is a famous software developer.
He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree and received his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in 1983.
He is generally credited as the inventor of the Java programming language. He did the original design of the Java and implemented its original compiler and virtual machine. For this achievement he was elected to the United States National Academy of Engineering.
He has made major contributions to several other software systems such as NeWS and Gosling Emacs.
Since 1984, James Gosling is with Sun Microsystems; currently (2005) the CTO of the developer products group.
