James Hahn
James Kenneth Hahn (born July 3, 1950) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. Hahn is currently the Mayor of Los Angeles, California. He is the son of the late Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn . His father was known as an ardent supporter of civil rights.
Hahn served as city attorney from 1985-2001 before defeating former State Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa, a fellow Democrat, by 9% in the 2001 mayoral run-off election.
Hahn lives in San Pedro, California with his wife, Monica.
Biography
James Hahn was born in Los Angeles, and raised in the Crenshaw, Los Angeles, California district of South Central Los Angeles. He has a sister named Janice Hahn. He attended Manchester Avenue Elementary School, then Daniel Freeman Elementary School. He then went on to go to Horace Mann Junior High School, followed by Lutheran High School. He graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California with a Bachelor's Degree in English. He recieved his law degree from Pepperdine as well. From 1981-1985. he served as LA City Controller. He then went on to serve for the next 16 years, 1985-2001, as LA City Attorney. Beating Antonio Villaraigosa in a run off election in 2001, he went on to become the 40th mayor of the city of Los Angeles.
